Frequently Asked Questions - Technical
Osicus Solo
What are the computer requirements for running the Osicus audiometer?
The Osicus software has been tested on PCs and laptops running Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista operating systems. The software requires approximately 75MB of hard disk space. The audiometer requires an available parallel port on your computer.
Osicus runs with an SQL Server 2005 database. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is distributed for free and requires 192MB RAM minimum, and approximately 350MB of hard disk space for a standard installation. To install and run SQL Server 2005 and Osicus, the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 must also be installed.
My computer does not have a parallel port. Can I still use the audiometer?
Many computers are now being shipped without parallel ports. There are several options to add a parallel port to a computer or laptop. On computers with a spare PCI expansion slot, a PCI parallel port card can be added to provide an additional available parallel port. A laptop will usually have expansion slots for PCMCIA cards or Express cards. Parallel port cards can be purchased to fit these slots. See your computer documentation for more information on available slots.
There are also many USB to Parallel converters available in many different forms. These allow parallel printers to connect via USB. However, these will not work with the Osicus Audiometer. If you are in any doubt about connectivity, please contact us before making any additional purchases.
I've installed the software and connected the audiometer to the computer, but it will not run.
Check all required software components are correctly installed. These include Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 and Osicus software. For more information on installation, see the Osicus Installation Manual.
Check all the cabling is correctly connected and check that the parallel port is correctly configured. This is particularly important if you are using a PCI, PCMCIA or Express card. Refer to the Troubleshooting section of the User Manual for common problems and their solutions. If this does not solve the problem, contact us. Please note down any error messages displayed and any configuration changes you have made.
How can I get my audiometer calibrated?
Audiometers must be calibrated annually to ensure that all results are accurate. We offer a calibration service for all Osicus audiometers. Please contact us to arrange for the calibration of an audiometer.
There is a problem with my audiometer. How do I return it?
In the event of a problem with the operation of your audiometer, please contact us with details of the problem. If this cannot be resolved, we will arrange to have the audiometer returned and replaced.
